ST. Therese of the Child Jesus was a French Discalced Carmelite widely venerated in modern times. St. Therese has been a highly influential model of sanctity for Catholics and for people of other denominations because of her simplicity and practicality of her approach to the spiritual life. She is one of the most popular saints in the history of the Church. Pope St. Pius X called her “the greatest saint of modern times.

St. Francis of Assisi
St. Francis founded the Catholic Church’s Franciscan Order in Italy during the 13th century. He is remembered for his generosity to the poor and suffering. Pope Benedict XVI called him a great saint and a joyful man who taught the Church that the secret of true happiness is to become saints, close to God. Francis shared in the Lord’s suffering and miraculously received Christ’s wounds, the stigmata, in his own flesh, September, 1224. St. Francis died on October 3 1226 and was canonized in 1228.
