There are many different ways of using the Bible in Christian prayer. Some methods may be easier or more beneficial for certain people, while other methods may be more appealing or better for other people. Some methods are more active (concentrating on the events and/or words of the text, while others are more receptive (letting God speak to you). Some methods are more vocal (speaking words or singing music), while others are more interior (reflecting silently). We will briefly reflect on some of the most common ways Christians have used the Bible for prayer throughout the centuries and today.
We will also discuss a five-step method for uncovering more of the meaning of Sacred Scripture: “How to Study a Gospel Story” in preparation for a Group Bible Study or that you could use for personal study when you sit down privately with the scriptures.
We will then learn about prayer, a method by Armand M. Nigro, S.J. called “Praying with Scripture.”
